Bhopal: Amit Mali, the pink-shirted youth who praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Congress’ Bhopal candidate Digvijaya Singh’s rally, on Monday said that he lauded PM Modi as he was influenced by him following surgical strike.

Earlier today, Mali left everyone amused and Singh embarrassed after he went up on stage and started praising Prime Minister Modi during Congress leader’s rally in Bhopal’s Berasia.

Mali, who will cast his vote for the first time in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, said that he was impressed by Prime Minister Modi and the surgical strike conducted by India against terrorists being harboured in Pakistan.

The young man also said he was not asked by any political person to go up on stage and that he was not associated with any political party.

“I am influenced by PM Modi. Nobody asked me to go up on stage, I went there on my own... I am not affiliated to any political party,” he said.

Mali walked up the stage after Singh called him up asking whether he received Rs 15 lakh in his bank account as promised by PM Modi during 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign.

In a video of the incident, shared by news agency ANI, the Congress leader can be heard saying, “Tumhare khate me aa gaye...aa jao...aa jao...idhar aa jao. Account number le aao tumahra. Hum tumhara nagrik abhinandan karenge. "Tumhare khate me 15 lakh aa gaye. Aa jao beta, idhar aa jao. (Those who got Rs 15 lakh in their bank account kindly raise your hand... Come here, tell me your account number. I will publicly felicitate you... Did you receive Rs 15 lakh in your bank account...Did you get employment? You pink shirt).”

To Singh’s surprise, the youth, instead of replying to his question,  said, “Surgical strike kar diya Modiji ne. Atankvadiyo ko mara. (Modi ji conducted a surgical strike, killed the terrorists).”

However, Singh immediately snatched the mike away from Mali before he could speak further and asked him to leave the stage. The youth was then pushed away from the dias by one of the Congress leaders.

Irked by Mali’s statement, the Congress leader said, “Your are talking about surgical strike, did you get the money.”

Singh is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal against BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. Bhopal will go to polls on May 12.
