New Delhi: Nutritional deficiencies are on the rise all around the world with some of them being more prevalent than the others. In India, deficiencies like iron deficiency anaemia, vitamin D, C and A deficiency, and iodine deficiencies are the most common. Nutritional deficiencies can adversely affect our health. In older adults, deficiency of micronutrients has been recently found to cause frailty.

Vitamin D deficiency has been found prevalent among 50-90% people of all age groups in the country. Vitamin D deficiency can increase the skin of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and also affect skeletal health. Vitamin D is mainly obtained from sunlight and food sources are mostly animal-based. Plant-based food like grains and vegetables are a poor source of vitamin D.
