Port Blair: The Indian Coast Guard has apprehended a Myanmarese vessel near Car Nicobar islands. Six crew members were onboard the vessel, which was escorted to Port Blair and handed over to the police for investigation. The incident took place on Thursday.

"@IndiaCoastGuard ship Rajveer, in a sea-air coordinated operation, apprehended a Myanmarese vessel with six crew operating near Car Nicobar Islands on 19 Sep," the Coast Guard tweeted.

In the operation, 1,160 kilograms of banned drugs that were reportedly being supplied to South-East Asian country have been confiscated. "ICG on September 19 had detained the vessel with suspicious packets found in the gunny bags which were later analysed by the Narcotics Control Bureau at the Port Blair," said Coast Guard Spokesperson DIG Vijay Kumar.

The entire operation was conducted after a Dornier surveillance plane of the Coast Guard detected the vessel and informed the control centre. The vessel was apprehended by ICGS Rajveer.

This is not the first time when the Indian Coast Guard apprehended Myanmarese vessels inside the Indian waters. Last year, the Coast Guard had stopped two dingies with 24 people on board, fishing illegally in Indian waters.
