Kashmir: Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Nawakadal area of Srinagar on Tuesday. The terrorist was gunned down in a joint operation by CRPP and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The police said that two weapons and ammunition were recovered near the bodies of the slain terrorists. An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Srinagar's Nawakadal area on the intervening night of May 18-19 after the security forces gheraoed few houses in the area following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the particular area of the old Srinagar city. The authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Srinagar for now. Police confirmed that an encounter had started at Kanemazar Nawakadal area of Srinagar.

"Encounter has started at Kanemazar Nawakadal area of Srinagar. JKP and CRPF are on the job. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police had said on its official Twitter handle today morning.

"The operation was launched on a credible police input last night in Kanemazar, Nawakadal, Srinagar. Some exchange of fire took place during night. One Police SOG personnel injured. Firing resumed during search in the morning and the operation continues," the police had said earlier.

In a major victory for the armed forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Reyaz Naikoo was killed in an encounter with security forces in Beighpora area of Awantipora in Kashmir on May 6.
