Gujarat unlock 2.0: Shops to open till 8 pm, restaurants till 9 pm [DETAILS]

The Gujarat government has announced its plans to enter into the Unlock 2 phase in a bid to revive the state's economy.

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday announced that shops in the state will be permitted to operate till 8 pm, and hotels and restaurants till 9 pm under the 'Unlock 2'. The decision will come into effect from July 1.

At present, shops are allowed to remain open till 7 pm.

While announcing more relaxations, Rupani said: "The Gujarat government has taken a decision to allow shops to remain open till 8 pm instead of till 7 pm which was effective till Tuesday. The government has also taken a decision to allow hotels and restaurants to function till 9 pm in the evening. Both the decisions will be effective from July 1."

As far as night curfew in Gujarat is concerned, the timings will be from 10 pm till 5 am instead of from 9 pm to 5 am.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had yesterday written to Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, clarifying that there shall be no hindrance in inter-state or intra-state movements of individuals or goods.

He had also apprised the officials of the new exemptions under Unlock 2 that will kick in from Wednesday.

Coronavirus in Gujarat

Gujarat on Monday recorded 626 coronavirus cases, taking the total tally in the state to 32,023. Death toll in Gujarat has risen to 1,828. Out of these, Ahmedabad accounts for 1,435 deaths, followed by Surat with 155, Vadodara with 49, Gandhinagar (29), Aravalli (16), Panchmahals (15), Patan (15), Bhavnagar (13), Anand (13) and Mehsana (11).

At 5.70 per cent, Gujarat has one of the highest mortality rate for coronavirus in the country.
