Vadodara: In a tragic incident, an SUV went up in flames on Ankodiya-Sevasi Road on Tuesday afternoon, with its owner trapped inside the vehicle. The deceased was identified as  41-year-old builder Mihir Panchal, who had left his home at Greenwoods Antica Society on Sevasi road earlier the day. Reportedly, he had told his family that he was going for a visit to one of his under-construction site.

The incident purportedly occurred when Panchal was a few hundred metres away from his construction site and the car was got engulfed in flames, the Times of India reported. While investigations were still underway to figure out what caused the fire, it is being speculated that short-circuit could have taken place in the car, the daily reported.

It was not clear as to who sighted the charred car first; however, the report added that Panchal's wife was informed about the incident who asked his staff members to reach the spot. The report added that even though a small crowd had gathered at the spot, with many recording videos and clicking pictures of the burning car, the fire department was notified about the incident only after Panchal's staff members had arrived there.

Fire department officials were quoted by the daily as saying that the car was completely ablaze by the times they reached there. Upon their arrival, they immediately too steps to douse the fire, officials said. Notably, officials realised that Panchal had been trapped in the car and was charred to death only after the fire was brought under control.

Speaking on this, Parth Brahmbhatt of Vadiwadi fire station told TOI, "We sighted the body after the fire was almost doused. The forensic experts have collected evidence to ascertain the reason behind the fire so until then nothing can be ruled out."

Meanwhile, police have also initiated a probe in the matter and have registered a case of accidental death. Panchal is survived by his wife and his twin sons studying in Class XI.
