Haryana govt releases SOPs for barber shops, wedding functions, taxis [DETAILS]

Chandigarh: Positive coronavirus cases are rising at an alarming rate in India and sharing the border with national capital Delhi has put neighbouring Haryana on red alert after the state witnessed a three-fold increase in Covid-19 cases in the past three weeks.

In wake of the increasing cases of coronavirus even as we near the end of yet another lockdown, the Haryana government on Friday issued a set of guidelines pertaining to the usage of taxis, availing salon services and conducting wedding functions.

The state has capped the number of passengers allowed to travel in taxis, maxi cabs and auto rickshaws in the latest standard operating procedures.

“Only two passengers will be allowed to travel in a taxi. Excluding the driver, maxi cabs can carry up to three people and auto rickshaws can carry two… E-rickshaws are allowed to carry two passengers,” state Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma said, according to news agency PTI.

The Haryana government also issued SOPs for hair-cutting salons, barber shops and advisory for performing marriage functions.

As per the new SOP, appointments or tokens need to be taken to stagger the entry of clients at salons or barber shops, and all guests should have downloaded Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones.

Meanwhile, a rule has also been put in place for two-wheelers, wherein motorcycles are permitted with one pillion rider. However, it’s mandatory for both riders to wear masks, gloves and helmets. Additionally, rickshaw pullers cannot ferry more than two passengers.

Other rules stay as is, such as movement of individuals being prohibited between 7 pm and 7 am, except for essential activities and people above 65 years of age, persons with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children below the age of 10 years shall stay at home.

Alarming rise in Haryana

Positive cases in Haryana surged from 339 on April 30 to 1,067 on May 22. Cases in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar, which come within the National Capital Region, spiked from 54, 53, 25 and 24, respectively, to 250, 185, 151 and 91, respectively, according to the state health department data.

More importantly, 12 out of the total 16 Covid-19 deaths in Haryana happened in this very month (as of May 22).
