New Delhi: Delhi Police has identified suspects accused of snatching the purse of the woman who claimed to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s niece Damyanti Ben Modi. The police identified the suspects after acquiring the CCTV footage and several teams gave been deployed to nab the suspects.

The police have nabbed the suspects but did not disclose their identity as one of them is a minor.

Delhi Police spokesperson Assistant Police Commissioner Anil Mittal to IANS, both the criminals, one of them a minor, would be apprehended soon.

The woman was mugged by two bike-borne miscreants in North Delhi’s Civil Lines area on Saturday morning.

As per reports, Damyanti Ben Modi was travelling in an auto when two men snatched her handbag that had Rs 56,000 cash, mobile phone and some important documents. The incident took place at around 7 am when she was on her way to Samaj Bhavan in Civil Lines.

"I came to Delhi from Amritsar with family and was going to Gujarati Samaj Bhawan. As soon as the auto-rickshaw reached the gate of the Bhawan two men swooped at me. They were riding on a scooty," the victim told news agency IANS.

"Before I could understand anything they fled with my purse that contained more than Rs. 50,000 cash, two mobile phones and some important documents," she said.

"I had to take a flight to Ahmedabad on Saturday evening and the tickets were in that purse. Now, I don't know how it would be managed. It was a bad experience to visit Delhi," she added.

The incident comes amid a rise in incidents of snatching in the national capital in recent days. Last month, Asian News International (ANI) journalist Joymala Bagchi was attacked by bike-borne assailants who tried to snatch her phone.

The woman had lodged a complaint at the Civil Lines Police Station following which the police filed an FIR and initiated an investigation.

The police said that they were scanning CCTV footage of the area to nab the miscreants who fled the scene after snatching Damyanti’s bag.
