PM Modi in Bahrain: 'Can't imagine that I am so far here while my friend Arun Jaitley has gone away'

Manama: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain on Saturday.

India and Bahrain promised further co-operation in areas of space technology, solar energy and culture exchange as Modi held comprehensive talks with his Bahrain counterpart.

“This visit is historical and will improve ties between our nations. I look forward to meeting the top spectrum of leaders and interacting with the Indian diaspora” PM Modi said ahead of the visit.

“Our talks were comprehensive and included a wide range of subjects concerning India-Bahrain relations,” PM Modi said after meeting Prince Khalifa.

PM Modi is the first Indian premier to visit Bahrain. He is on the third leg of his three-nation tour to France, UAE and Bahrain, will also hold talks with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Modi addressed a community programme in Bahrain capital Manama and hailed the historical ties of the two nations.

On Sunday, he will witness the formal beginning of the re-development of temple of Shreenathji -- the oldest in the Gulf region.

10:00 pm: "All of you know that on Sept 7, India's 'Chandrayaan' is going to land on the surface of moon. The entire world is discussing India's space missions today. The world is astonished that how are we able to gain these results in such small budget, using only our skills," said PM Modi.

9:44 pm: "India has decided that we will multiply the size of our economy by twice in the upcoming 5 years. 5 trillion dollars economy in the target in front of us," said PM Modi.

9.31 pm: When you talk to your family members in India, they tell you they feel a change in the environment. Do you feel a change in India? Do you see a change in the attitude of India? Confidence of India has increased or not? Modi asked the Indian diaspora. 

9.28 pm: I will visit Shrinathji Temple tomorrow and will pray for peace & prosperity in this country. It is also a matter of happiness that renovation of this temple will also officially begin tomorrow, PM Modi said.

9.27 pm: It is the sacred festival of janmashtmi today. I wish you & the entire Indian community across the world on 'Krishna Janmotsav', Modi said. 

9.25 pm: "I realise that it took quite a long time for an Indian Prime Minister to visit Bahrain. However, I have been fortunate enough to be the 1st Indian PM to visit Bahrain," the Indian Prime Minister told the audience as chants of "Modi, Modi" echoed the venue.

9:17 pm: Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier met his Bahrain counterpart Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, in Manama. The visit marks the first-ever visit by an Indian PM to the island country in the Persian Gulf.
