Odisha: Banks, govt offices to remain shut after 1:30 pm today, holiday for schools in Bhubaneswar

Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018: Odisha government has also declared a holiday for all educational institutes and government offices in Cuttack after 1:30 pm on Wednesday.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday announced that all banks, financial institutes, government offices and educational institutes across the state will remain closed after 1:30 pm today (Tuesday) in view of the opening ceremony of Men’s Hockey World Cup. The government also declared a holiday for all educational institutes in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday in view of the opening ceremony of Hockey Men’s World Cup.

A release by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced the holiday for the above-mentioned institutes, adding that all government offices will also remain shut after 1:30 pm in Bhubaneswar as well. The inaugural ceremony for the sporting event is scheduled to be held in the evening on Tuesday. Meanwhile, matches for the World Cup will commence at Kalinga Stadium from Wednesday.

As per Times of India, the state government has also declared a holiday for all educational institutes and government offices in Cuttack after 1:30 pm on Wednesday. The order has been issued citing the Hockey World Cup celebrations event slated to be held at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday.

 

 

Ahead of the Men's Hockey World Cup 2018, captains of the 16 hockey teams participating in the tournament paid a visit at Mukteshwar Temple along with Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on Monday.

The inaugural programme at Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday will see performances by Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit and noted music composer AR Rahman. A few Odia actors are also scheduled to perform at the event, TOI reported. Apart from the inaugural ceremony, Rahman and a few other actors are also expected to perform at Barabati Stadium on Wednesday.
