[PICTURES] Heavy showers and thunderstorm bring respite from soaring temperature in Delhi-NCR

According to weather reports, the intensity of rains is expected to increase from July 17. IMD has predicted heavy rains in the northern region over the next few days.

New Delhi: After a long wait Delhi and adjoining areas such as Noida and Ghaziabad witnessed heavy rains and thunderstorms which marked the arrival of monsoon in the National Capital Region (NCR). While the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its weather outlook, recorded that the Southwest Monsoon has 'further advanced' into remaining parts of North Arabian Sea including Delhi, the national capital has witnessed a slow advance of the monsoon this year. 

"The low-pressure area over northeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar is likely to become less marked by tomorrow and the seasonal trough is likely to shift further northwards gradually during next 48 hours," IMD said in its forecast for the week ahead.  

Showers, accompanied with winds brought down the temperature in the region which was touching 40 degree Celsius during the morning. Adjoining areas including Noida and Faridabad also witnessed heavy spells of rains during the afternoon causing congestion and waterlogging in areas.

According to private weather prediction agency, the intensity of rains is expected to further increase from July 17. According to the report, parts of the northern region such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana are slated to witness rain and thundershower over the next few days.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall (expected) at isolated places very likely over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya, Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Madhya Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep and Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal," an IMD bulletin issued at 4.30 pm on Monday.

 

 

The IMD bulletin further predicted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, Kerala and Coastal Karnataka and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, South Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
