Pulwama terror attack: Anger on the streets as bandhs, protests, marches organised across states

Protests, marches and dharnas erupted in different states as India remains on the boil after the suicide attack on CRPF convoy in which 40 jawans were martyred on Thursday.

New Delhi: India is on the boil as tensions run high after the Pulwama suicide bombnig which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans on Thursday. Several protests are being organised today against the heinous terror attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy which claimed the lives of 40 jawans on Thursday.

In the morning, a protest blocking railway tracks also happened in Nalasopara which disrupted the train movement. The police lathi-charged the protesters in order to remove them from the tracks. It was also reported that fiery protests were organised in Jamshedpur city of Jharkhand.  

Apart from protests, there have also been calls for bandh in several cities across the country.  In the honour of CRPF jawans who lost their lives in this attack, peaceful bandhs are being observed throughout the country. In states of Rajasthan and Maharashtra, cities such as Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Thane among others observed a bandh in many places.

Around 15,000 shops were also shut in Karnataka's Bengaluru. A complete bandh was observed in Chickpet area, Avenue road and surrounding areas in the city.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also called for a candlelight march at 4 pm on Saturday to commemorate the martyrdom of the jawans in Pulwama terror attack. The candlelight march remembering martyrs will start from Hazra More in Kolkata where the TMC leader will join other citizens and will march till Gandhi statue. In her tweet, Mamata showing solidarity with the jawans and country also mentioned that we are all together at this hour. She had earlier also questioned the intelligence failure demanding an answer from the National security adviser, Ajit Doval.

After the Pulwama attack, several organisations and groups of citizens took out candlelight march on Friday as well in Patna, Hyderabad, Ladakh, New Delhi, Port Blair etc. Youth Congress also took to streets yesterday and protested outside Pakistan High Commission in Delhi burning flags of Pakistan. 

Officials have said that Jaish-e-Mohammed has taken the responsibility of the terror attack. Demands to declare Pakistan-based JeM Chief Masood Azhar, a 'global terrorist' by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have resurfaced post the attack.
