Ballia: Om Prakash Rajbhar, Uttar Pradesh Minister and BJP’s ally in the state, said on Monday that he believed that Congress President Rahul Gandhi was “fit to be the Prime Minister of the country.” In a statement that is unlikely to go down well with the BJP, Rajbhar said in Balia, "I find Rahul Gandhi fit to be Prime Minister. The final word rests with the people and they will decide who will be India's next Prime Minister.”

Rajbhar, who is the head of Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party, also took a dig at Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who recently claimed in an interview that the BJP government would resolve the Ram Mandir issue in 24 hours if the Supreme Court fails to deliver an early resolution in the matter. Rajbhar reportedly questioned the CM’s statement, saying, “ When the central government could not do anything in five years, what will the Chief Minister do in 24 hours?"

As per news agency IANS, in an interview to a news channel, the UP CM had said, "I want to say that the court should give its verdict soon, and if it is unable to do so, it should hand over the issue to us. We will resolve the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute within 24 hours. We won't take 25 hours.”

Over the last few years, Rajbhar has been making sharp statements against ally Bharatiya Janata Party and had recently even threatened to walk out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He had told news agency PTI, "I think the alliance is a big challenge for the BJP. If it doesn't agree to the demand of sub-categorisation of OBC quota put forward by Om Prakash Rajbhar, this alliance will remain a big challenge for the BJP.”

Off late, BJP has seen its relationship with several of its allies turn sour. N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP and Upendra Khushwaha’s RLSP had all snapped ties with BJP as allies in the last one year.
