Bengaluru: Aggrieved citizens say water not fit for daily chores, no action from authorities

Bengaluru: The lives of the people in the Kalhalli area near the Ulsoor lake are in danger because the water supplied there is contaminated. The water in the area is supplied by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). The quality of the water is so bad that the citizens are scared of using it for daily chores.
According to the residents, the BWSSB authorities are not paying any attention to the problem. A resident alleged that they had informed the authorities about the poor quality of water about a week ago.
According to the residents, the authorities did not pay any attention to maintaining a distance between sewer lines and the Cauvery water supply pipes. As a result of this, contaminated water is supplied to the residents every time the sewer lines get choked. While talking to the Bangalore Mirror, another resident, Kalidasa Reddy said that the sewer lines are old and need to be replaced but the concerned authorities are not taking any action.
The area has one tap which is right next to a manhole. Whenever the manhole chokes, the residents cannot use the tap. Though the aggrieved residents have been complaining about their problems, the situation has remained the same. While the residents held the authorities responsible, Srinivas, BWSSB assistant executive engineer said that it was the fault of the residents.
Srinivas said that the sewer lines get choked because the residents throw sanitary pads and undergarments into them. Srinivas added that he was ready to send manpower and machines at the area to clear the sewer lines. He said that he had even sent a jetting machine to clear the blockage.
