Chattisgarh: A case of medical negligence reported from Chhattisgarh's Pratappur village, a couple alleged that their child died during delivery due to the hospital staff nurse's negligence. The woman was identified as Lakshmi, who claimed that her husband was taking her to a local hospital when the ambulance driver suggested them to deliver their child at nurse Shivkumari Jaiswal's residence.
Lakshmi told news agency ANI that during the delivery, the child's hand came out and the nurse tried to push the hand inside and broke it. Later when they reached another hospital the child was born dead, Lakshmi added. Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer, Pratappur, Rajesh told news agency ANI that they have taken suo-moto cognisance of the matter and they have also received a letter regarding the incident from their senior authorities.
He added that they are going to investigate the matter and question both sides before taking any action in the matter. However, Shivkumari Jaiswal has denied any involvement in Lakshmi's delivery and the death of her baby. She also claimed that she was not working on the day the incident took place.
She further added that this was done to malign her image and the child must have died in some other hospital. Further alleging that she did not see the patient in the hospital and claimed that the delivery was not done in their hospital.
In a case reported from Haryana's Tohana district, a woman delivered a stillborn baby in a government hospital's toilet which triggered protests in the area earlier this month. The doctor on the duty had to use a flashlight to facilitate the delivery as there was no light in the toilet. Meanwhile, the family of the woman alleged that, initially, doctors told them a normal delivery wasn't possible and a cesarean had to be carried out for delivery. But when the woman went to washroom her water broke there and doctors performed the delivery in the toilet.
The family claimed that they were eating food when hospital staff came and informed them that she has given birth to a stillborn child. Further claiming it as sheer negligence of the staff, woman's aunt said as she was operated in the toilet, staff used flashlights as there were no lights in the washroom. According to on-duty doctor Sachin Kumar, the ultrasound of the woman clearly indicated that the baby had died in the womb. However, an inquiry was initiated in the case.
