Panaji: Goans' wait for the resumption of water supply that remains suspended since the last six days due to a damaged pipeline near Ponda town got longer by another day.

PWD minister Dipak Pauskar has extended the deadline for the resumption of water supply to Wednesday, a day after he assured that the crisis would be over by Tuesday.

"The water supply will resume by Wednesday morning as the work to repair the pipeline has been completed," said the minister.
The pipeline, which supplies water to Ponda and Tiswadi talukas, developed a leak at Kerye village near Ponda town, around 40 km from here, following landslide on August 15.

Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on "moral grounds" for allowing the water crisis to fester.

Panaji is amongst the worst-affected areas due to water scarcity.

Several hundred households in Goa are being supplied water through tankers since last Thursday.
