Mumbai: It was a tragic day for local commuters as 12 passengers died in separate accidents across various stations in Mumbai. Moreover, five others were injured as well. This figure has been revealed in the report card drawn by the Railway Police. Most of the commuters died in the area of Kalyan and Thane railway lines.
Three passengers each died in Kalyan and Thane. 10 passengers died in Dombivli, Kurla, Wadala, Bandra, Mumbai Central. Six passengers have not been identified. On the first day of the week, there is usually a large crowd in the local areas. However, some people are responsible for the death of a local as most accidents were caused while crossing railway tracks and running to catching locals.
As per the data available, over 3,000 commuters die each year while commuting on Mumbai locals. Here is a look at the numbers of accidents and fatalities over the last three years.

Due to the increasing number of accidents, the suburban local services known as Mumbai's Lifeline are being feared as life takers. A total of 54 passengers died in local accidents during the last six days from November 7 to November 12 while 55 passengers were injured.
On November 12, the maximum number of causualties was reported at 12. In addition, 11 people died on November 7, seven died on November 9 while eight people each died on November 8, 10 and 11.
