Mumbai: Another incident of online fraud surfaced in Mumbai when a doctor was duped of Rs 2.9 lakh after he clicked on a link. A 30-year-old man who is employed with a private company in Pune was arrested on Saturday in relation with the case. The doctor from Gamdevi was duped of his money in November last year.
Bipin Mahato, the accused had called the aggrieved on November 21 saying that he was an executive of a bank where the doctor had an account. While talking to the Times of India, a police official from the Gamdevi police station said that after giving the doctor a brief about the services that the bank offers, he had even verified his account number to gain his trust.

After gaining the doctor's trust, he said that the doctor was supposed to authorise the application of the bank, for which, he sent a link to the doctor. Allegedly, the doctor was supposed to click on the link before forwarding it to another number.
When the doctor clicked on the link and did the needful, he received five messages informing him that Rs 2.9 lakh had been transferred from his account. When the doctor tried contacting the number, he was unable to reach him. Panicking, the doctor lodged a complaint against the caller.
When the police carried out the investigation, they discovered that the money had been transferred to an account which belonged to a man named Bipin Mahato from Bettiah, Bihar. The accused has been arrested and is in police custody.
