Chennai man runs with Rs 11,000 on pretext on helping youth

A man allegedly ran away with Rs 11,000 on pretext of offering help to a youth. The accused was arrested on February 15 by the police and the money was recovered from him.

Chennai: A man was arrested on Friday by the police after he fled with Rs 11,000 on pretext of helping a man. The 41-year-old accused took away Rs 11,000 which belonged to a youth. The accused offered his help in depositing the money in a cash deposit machine and ran away with it.

The incident happened on the Manali-Ponneri National Highway in an ATM. The accused allegedly fled with Rs 11,000 which a youth had given to him after he offered his assistance in depositing the amount in a cash deposit machine.

According to the Times of India's report, the incident happened on February 11 when P Balaraman, a 22-year-old was awaiting his turn in the queue outside an ATM situated on the Manali-Ponneri National Highway. Identified as A Bhaskar, the accused offered to help Balaraman in depositing the money. Balaraman gave the cash to him as the accused said that he would return to him with the challan. Contrary to Balaraman's expectations, the accused did not return. 

After the incident, Balaraman went to the M7 Manalipudur police station and filed a case against the accused. During the investigation, the police checked the CCTV footage of the ATM and counted the accused, a goldsmith and a resident of Armstrong Nagar, Chinnamathur and Manali as the main suspects.

The police arrested the accused, Bhaskar on February 15 and recovered Rs 11,000 from him. Allegedly, the accused had cases of gold, silver thefts and duping in his name. The accused used to con people by diverting their attention.
