Ghaziabad: Man fails to crack police exam, poses as cop instead

After he failed to crack his Delhi Police exam, Ashish Chaudhary started to pose as a cop. The accused used to extort money from people and used to summon them to the nearest police stations.

Ghaziabad: A man allegedly started pretending to be a cop in front of his family and fiancee after he failed to crack his Delhi Police examination. Ashish Chaudhary, the accused was arrested from north-east Delhi's Sikandarpur village, the police said on Saturday, July 13. 

Chaudhary has also been accused of extorting money from people in the national capital. A resident of Harsh Vihar Colony, the accused used to extort money from people after frisking them. 

The police confiscated a countrymade pistol, cartridges, a uniform, motorcycle and Rs 25,000 cash. During interrogation, the accused confessed to frisking people and taking cash from them. Superintendent of Police (SP), Shlok Kumar said that after taking the cash, he used to ask people to come to the nearest police station to collect it. 

Last month, Chaudhary had allegedly caught hold of a man and checked his bag. He had taken the cash from the bag and had asked the man to take his cash from the Tulsi Niketan police post. However, when the man reached the post, the police personnel deployed there said that the officer he had been looking for was not posted there.  

Delhi man turns conman after failing to crack civil service exam

Another man from Delhi started to pose as a senior bureaucrat after he failed his civil services examination. The accused, Sampat Singh was arrested in July with two of his associates. Booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the accused had been out on bail when he allegedly duped a man of Rs 1.8 crore.

 

Singh had several cases of duping registered against him. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gopal Naik said, "In February, earlier this year, we received a complaint from a Hyderabad-based man who alleged that one named Sampat, posed as a civil servant and duped him of Rs 1.8 crore on the pretext of getting him a petrol pump license."

Noida man arrested for posing as IPS 

A man named Aditya Dikshit was arrested from Noida in June for posing as an IPS officer. Dikshit's associate, Akhilesh Yadav was also arrested by the city police for posing as a Public Relations Officer (PRO). Dikshit used to introduce himself as a cyber crime officer employed with the Ministry of Home Affairs. 

Dikshit and Yadav were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The two accused allegedly cited their influence and stayed at a hotel without paying the bills. It was also alleged that they asked the hotel staff to fill the fuel tank of their car.
