Jharkhand: BJP MLA booked for sexual harassment, 'Police is trying to protect him', says survivor

A Bharatiya Janata Party worker has filed a sexual harassment complaint against Party MLA from Baghmara district, Dhullu Mahto. However, Mahto has denied all the charges.

Ranchi: A Bharatiya Janata Party worker has filed a complaint against Party MLA from Baghmara district, Dhullu Mahto. The woman accused Mahto of sexual harassment. However, Mahto has denied all the charges. 

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the complainant woman alleged that the police were not acting against the accused and the authorities have been trying to protect him. The woman is an office-bearer in the BJP's Dhanbad district unit and she also tried to immolate herself outside the police station on Thursday. 

Meanwhile, the woman leveled strong allegations against the local police and mentioned that the police authorities refused to register her complaint at the police station. She told the HT, "I lodged a complaint online on Friday evening as Katras police station refused to entertain my written complaint against the Bhagmara MLA."

Meanwhile, in the official complaint, the woman claimed that in November 2015, Mahto called her to Tundu guest house on pretext of some party-related work. When the woman reached she found Anand Sharma and Dhallu Mahto waiting there, Anand left the room, after which Dhallu caught my hand and later laid his hands on my private parts. He also offered her money and other things for sexual favours. However, the complainant somehow managed to escape.

Reportedly, she also alleged that Mahto asked her to go to Ranchi and Bokaro. And when she refused, he started intimidating her through different sources. The accused even threatened to eliminate her family members. 

The Katras police station in-charge Sanjay Kumar told the national daily that they had received the online complaint from the police headquarters in Ranchi and they were investigating the case. 

However, Manto has denied all the allegations leveled by the complainant and  reportedly, he accused the woman of running a 'sex racket'
