Man murders 16-year-old niece in Uttarakhand's Nainital after growing 'suspicious' of her

A man from Nainital's Lalkuan murdered his 16-year-old niece as he was 'suspicious' of her. The accused allegedly strangulated the minor to death and disposed of her body in a secluded spot.

Nainital: The police have solved the murder case of a girl from Uttarakhand's Nainital that took place on Wednesday. An investigation has revealed that the minor had been murdered by her uncle who had grown suspicious of her character. The minor had been staying with her uncle and his wife at their residence in Lalkuan after the death of her parents. 

After the incident surfaced, the Lalkuan police had formed three teams to nab the accused. As a result of a detailed investigation, the police zeroed down on the deceased's uncle and booked him. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

On Wednesday, a local named Vinod Mandal had found the body of the 16-year-old girl near the forest area in Tanda. After learning about the incident. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sunil Kumar Meena, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amit Srivastava and Circle-inspector Rajeev Mohan and other police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation. The 16-year-old girl had been strangulated to death. Initially, the police were suspecting that she had been raped and murdered. 

How it happened

For the last four months, the minor had been staying at her uncle's house. On Tuesday, the minor, her uncle and his wife went to sleep at 10 pm. The accused said that at around 1 am, the minor got up to relieve herself and went back to bed again. 

On Wednesday when the uncle woke up, the minor was allegedly missing. According to a report, he started searching for the 16-year-old girl but failed to find her. Locals informed him that the body of the minor had been found in the forest area near Tanda. Following this, the police were informed about the incident. According to the police, the minor did not own a mobile phone. 

The police began interrogating the family members of the deceased to find if one of them had a role to play in the incident. While the police launched an investigation, the forensic team started checking the spot for evidence. The forensic experts started examining the hair they had recovered from the spot. 

According to the police, the minor's body had been thrown away around 300 metres away from the spot where she had been murdered. The forensic experts said that she had tried to fight off the accused when she was being attacked. Based on the investigation and interrogation, the police arrested the accused.
