Chandigarh: An Indian Police Services (IPS) officer posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Faridabad, Haryana, allegedly committed suicide in the late hours of Tuesday. The body of DCP Vikram Kapoor was found at his home in Faridabad on the night of August 13.
Posted as the DCP of New Industrial Town (NIT), Faridabad, Kapoor was found dead at his home in Police Lines, Sector-30. In the latest development which has emerged with respect to the senior police officer's death, investigators have recovered a suicide note where Kapoor has accused a local station house officer (SHO) and a private individual of blackmailing him.
Based on the most recent inputs, police have taken both the SHO and the private citizen into custody for interrogation and are likely to reveal more details shortly. More details about the circumstances surrounding his death are awaited as this is a developing story and a police investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Police officials arrived at the house after family members of Kapoor alerted local law enforcement about a gunshot inside their home. Family members of the IPS officer told investigators that he locked himself in his room before taking the drastic step. According to a preliminary investigation, the police is yet to recover any suicide note from the DCP's house. Statements of his family members are also being recorded to ascertain whether he committed suicide owing to domestic disputes or professional pressure. A magisterial probe is likely to be ordered into Kapoor's death.
Kapoor reportedly shot himself with his service revolver sometime on Tuesday night. After receiving news of the incident, senior police officials rushed to his house in Sector 30. The scene of the crime is likely to be examined by forensic personnel in order to rule out any evidence of foul play. Meanwhile, the IPS officer's body has been sent for post-mortem. The exact cause of death will be ascertained only after the autopsy report is released.
Prior reports in the media suggest that Kapoor was earlier the DCP of police headquarters in Gurugram and was transferred to headquarters in Faridabad in September of 2016. Later, Kapoor swapped places with Nitika Gahlout as the DCP of NIT, Faridabad in September of 2018. Prior to this, Kapoor was posted as the DCP (traffic) in Gurugram in October of 2015. Before taking up the post, the IPS officer was posted as the DCP (crime) in Haryana's Ambala city.
