Uttar Pradesh: 2 men thrashed, their car set ablaze on suspicion of child-lifting; 8 held

On suspicion of child-lifting, a furious mob allegedly set a car ablaze after pulling out its two passengers and brutally thrashed them on Monday in Kasganj district.

Agra: A furious mob allegedly set a car ablaze after pulling out its two passengers and brutally thrashed them on the suspicion of them being child-lifters. The incident happened in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh, prompting the local police to intervene in the matter. Cops have arrested eight accused in the case on Tuesday. 

According to a report, Khereswar Prasad and his friend Praveen Kumar- the victim were immediately rushed to the hospital and Kumar's condition is said to be critical. The incident happened on Monday when the victim- Prasad was going to his in-laws' home accompanied by Kumar and that's when they were attacked by the miscreants. 

As per the FIR lodged in the case, Prasad's father-in-law Nawal Singh mentioned that on Monday, a mob attacked the duo near Athiya tri-section of Dholna police jurisdiction in Kasganj over suspicion that they were child-lifters. Reportedly, the accused have even set ablaze victim's car and Kumar is in a critical condition and still under treatment. The victims are admitted in government-run hospital of Aligarh. 

Meanwhile, superintendent of police Kasganj Sushil Ghule said that they have arrested eight men involved in the attack and a police team is also trying to identify others who were involved in the attack. The accused in the case were identified as Rajvee, Kailash, Suresh, Mukesh, Rajeev, Sumit, Rajveer and Vinod. 

However, the accused have been booked under sections 147 (riot with deadly weapon), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (assault), 435(mischief with fire to cause damage), 504 (intentional insult with intent to breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Further probe in the case is underway. 

In a similar case reported from Rajasthan's Alwar district last week, a 39-year-old man was brutally thrashed in a full public view in Thanagazi area on suspicion of child-lifting. The victim was identified as Chandrashekhar, who hailed from Assam. 

The incident was captured on a phone and the video is making rounds on social media platforms. In the video, the feeble victim could be seen injured and around 10-12 people were mercilessly thrashing him. He was later rushed to hospital by the police and was said to be out of danger now. Additional Director General of Police, B L Soni said that all district police have been directed to dispel rumour mongering through public meetings and creating awareness. Further probe, in this case is underway. .
