Kolkata: A same sex live-in relationship couple in Nadia district of West Bengal were allegedly beaten up by their landlords, purportedly because of the nature of their relationship.  A complaint was lodged at Chakdah police station situated about 65 km away from capital city Kolkata, according to which, the victims Swapan Biswas, 45 and Bikash Das, 34 were hurled abuses at and attacked with a wooden plank by the owner of their rented room on Sunday.

The accused were identified as Ananda Das and his wife. Bikash, in a page-long written complaint, stated that the accused invaded into their room while he was cooking and came down on him. They were reportedly also asked to vacate the property the same day. They were refused even a day's time to leave and Bikash was allegedly hit on the right part of his jaw and hand.

He was attacked so severely that he could not even move his wrist which got swollen.     The police station inspector-in-charge told Hindustan Times that they did receive a complaint but no mention of the reason of the attack was given by the complainants. No arrest was made in the case.

As per the couple, they were perplexed by the unprecedented attack and did not mention their relationship in the complaint as they thought the police might not take cognisance of the entire matter. The couple, on the other hand, while denying the attack alleged that the couple used to come home drunk and indulge in noisy altercations which disrupted the peace of the house. Das further alleged that the couple used to harass them by name-calling them as 'hijra' and also cursing him.
