Air pollution level today: AQI slightly improves due to strong winds, still in 'poor' category

The air quality in the national capital on Sunday improved due to strong surface winds with which the air quality index (AQI) came down. The AQI was recorded in 'poor' category.

New Delhi: The air quality in the national capital on Sunday improved due to strong surface winds, bringing the air quality index (AQI) slightly down. The AQI has been oscillating between ‘very poor' and ‘severe' category from weeks.

The news agency ANI reported, the AQI at Mathura Road was 314 with Particulate Matter (PM) 10. At Dhirpur, the AQI was 204 while in Pitampura area it dipped to 'poor' category at 266. Meanwhile, AQI near Pusa Road, Airport Terminal 3 and Chandni Chowk stood at 204, 260 and 316, respectively.

Reportedly, the Delhi's maximum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature was recorded at 11 degree Celsius. As per Skymet Weather's prediction on Saturday, the fog intensity was expected to improve from February 17 morning.

The ANI report further mentioned that the Western Disturbance would soon approach the Western Himalayas by February 17 and February 18 onwards. This can result in another wet spell to prevail over the regions for the following days. Also, the national capital witnessed dense fog at various places. 

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the air quality in Delhi was worse.  Dense fog added to the woes of locals in the city. The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) mentioned the overall air pollution level was recorded in the 'poor' category with overall Air Quality Index (AQI) docking at 225.
