In a bid to save environment, 2 eateries in Hisar serve a meal for 20 plastic bottles

In an attempt to curb the plastic pollution menace in the country, with just 20 empty plastic bottles two eateries in Hisar are providing a meal.

Chandigarh: In an attempt to curb the plastic pollution menace in the country, with just 20 empty plastic bottles two eateries in Hisar district of Haryana are providing a meal. 

In an outstanding initiative, the Hisar Municipal Corporation has tied up with two dhabas in the Janata Bhojanalaya and Hounda Ram Dhaba to save the environment. The initiative also aimed that no one sleeps or goes to bed hungry. 

According to a report, Superintendent engineer Ramji Lal said that the idea came to them when the found out that ragpickers who collect empty plastic bottles have stopped doing so as they no longer find buyers. Following a ban on the single-use plastic, junk dealers have stopped accepting plastic bottles which result in pilling up of plastic trash across the city, he added. 

Lal stated that then they approached some dhabas who readily agreed to provide a meal comprising of Dal, chapati and salad for anyone who comes to them with 20 plastic bottles. These collected plastic bottles are then handed over to the municipal corporation which uses it to grow plants and make polythene compost. Hisar mayor Gautam Sardana told a media person that the authorities also collect coconut shells. 

Meanwhile, the mayor lauded the dhaba owners efforts to curb the menace. He added that the dhaba owners are doing a very noble job by feeding the poor people.
