Kolkata: In a major twist in the Kolkata road rage case, the city police's homicide department has now claimed that it was Raghib Parwez, the elder son of Biryani chain owner, who was involved in the deadly car crash that claimed two lives.  Previous media reports suggested that Biryani giant's younger son Arsalan Parwez was involved in the accident.

Police have now identified Raghib Parwez as the main accused in the car crash case, which killed two Bangladeshi citizens on August 17 at the Shakespeare Sarani-Loudon Street crossing. Police have now arrested Raghib from Baenipukur.

During a press briefing, an officer of the homicide department said, "We found that the airbag was open during the collision. In 99 per cent of the cases, the person on whom the airbag opens receives injuries. We didn’t find any such marks on Arsalan Parwez. We continued to probe the luxury cars dashboard."

The officer further said, "We got the infotainment data from the car. Prior to the accident, the person who interacted with the car was Raghib Parwez. We retrieved the number as well. We have collected 40 CCTV footages. One boy was seen running away. The CCTV grab of the boy running and the one retrieved from the luxury car is the same. Raghib was seen getting into the vehicle at 11:30 pm."

Police said they are questioning Ragib to know the detail about the incident. According to police, Raghib has confessed that he was driving the Jaguar Land Rover F-Pace that met with the accident.

On August 18, a city court has sent Arsalan Parwez to 12 days police remand in connection with a car crash. The Jaguar, which is now said was being driven by Raghib, rammed into a Mercedes which crashed into a police kiosk from the impact. Two Bangladeshis were killed in the incident when the police kiosk hit by Mercedes fell on them. A third Bangladeshi national was injured in the incident.
