Himachal Pradesh: Accident victim's kin save lives of four patients by donating her organs

The deceased, Sushma suffered injuries after her scooter crashed into a motorcycle. After being taken to a hospital in Una, she was shifted to PGIMER Chandigarh where she died.

Chandigarh: An example of a heartwarming sacrifice was seen when a woman from Himachal Pradesh saved the life of two people and gave two a second chance at life as she bid goodbye to the world. The lady's donated kidneys and corneas saved the lives of two patients who were surviving on dialysis.

The donated kidneys of the deceased were given to two patients who were battling against end-stage kidney failure at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). Not only did the deceased save two lives, but also restored the vision of two more patients by donating her corneas.

According to the Indian Express' report, the deceased, Sushma, was admitted to a hospital in Una, Himachal Pradesh after her scooter crashed into a motorcycle and left her critically injured. Later the same day, Sushma was taken to PGIMER in Chandigarh but was declared dead on the night of January 31. 

After Sushma was declared dead, the transplant coordinator requested her husband, Shamsher Singh if he was willing to donate his wife's organs. While talking to the Indian Express, Professor AK Gupta, Medical Superintendent-cum Head of the Department of Hospital Administration of PGIMER said that after the family of the deceased consented the donation, the donor's organs were matched with the right recipients and the transplants were successfully performed. 

The family of the recipients were happy to see that their family members were finally given a second chance in life. While the family of the deceased were still mourning their loss, they also stated that there could have been no better tribute to the deceased than this.
