Virat Kohli led India's fightback on the second day of the Perth Test as he combined with Ajinkya Rahane to rescue the team after a poor start. Kohli played with amazing grit and determination to score a brilliant 82 of 181 deliveries to ensure India were well past the 150-run mark with just three men back in the dressing room as the visitors posted 172/3 at stumps on the second day.

While Kohli was magnificent with the bat, countering the Aussie pacers with remarkable ease, he almost gave away his wicket to spinner Nathan Lyon early in the innings by leaving a peach of a delivery from the experienced turner. It was in the 17th over of the Indian innings when Kohli was fresh on the pitch, having scored 22 off 32 deliveries when Lyon's off-spin delivery took a dramatic turn towards the stumps almost kissing the bails.

However, the leather missed the bails by a whisker with Kohli being the luckier one on the day. Lyon was in disbelief after seeing the ball miss the stumps as he thought he almost had the Indian captain. But in the end, it turned out to be a good leave from the Indian captain.

Kohli had no looking back after that minor stutter as he took his time to settle down and steered India's innings. He played 181 deliveries and forged two important partnerships of 74 runs and 90 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara and Rahane respectively to ensure India were in a comfortable position at stumps on the second day in Perth.

Opener KL Rahul (2) and Murali Vijay (0) failed to deliver once again as India got off to a woeful start with Australian pacers making full use of the green track. However, once Kohli got going, he took the matters in his own hands and frustrated Aussie bowlers with his astounding grit and brilliant technique.
