Wichita Falls philanthropist Kay Dillard passes away at age of 87

A generous Wichita Falls benefactor, Kay Dillard, passed away Sunday at the age of 87

Mary Kathryn "Kay" Dillard was born in Wichita Falls in 1931, according to information prepared by Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, where her services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Dr. Isaac Butterworth will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A philanthropist who contributed greatly to educational endeavors, as well as other community interests, Dillard attended Alamo Elementary, Zundelowitz Junior High School and Wichita Falls High School. She was homecoming queen at Texas Christian University, where she studied elementary education.

In September 1954, Dillard married the late A.R. "Bud" Dillard, a successful Texas oil, beer and banking businessman.

The name Dillard has become synonymous with business in Wichita Falls, enhanced further after the funding and naming of the Dillard School of Business at Midwestern State University. 

Mrs. Dillard supported numerous causes in the North Texas community, including the YMCA, United Regional Health Care System and Hospice of Wichita Falls. She was a member of Fain Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Dillard is survived by her son, Jeff Dillard, and wife Kelly of Fort Worth; a daughter, Carol Dillard, of Wichita Falls; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
