‘Peaceful’ protest in Wichita Falls set for Monday

A “peaceful” protest is set for Monday after noon in downtown Wichita Falls.

According to a Facebook page for the event, which include the hashtag “I can’t breathe,” more than 220 people said they are going to attend the protest and 572 said they were interested in going.

Event organizers said a march is also planned for next weekend.

The Wichita Falls protest comes after days of protests and riots around the country in response to the death of George Floyd who was in police custody in in Minneapolis.

The page invites attendees to bring posters, markers, bottled water, and people are encouraged to wear face masks due to the coronavirus. Alcohol and weapons are prohibited.

“We’re doing this to prove that we can stand in solidarity for injustice without succumbing to the violence it’s caused,” the page said.

The protest will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at 800 Scott.
