Dozens of baseball, softball standouts chosen to play in Wichita Falls' FCA all-star games
The high school softball playoffs begin this week and there’s still a week left in high school baseball’s regular season.
In other words, the next month will have plenty of high-stakes diamond action for area teams eyeing state berths.
But the second annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes' all-star baseball and softball games set for Thursday, June 13 in Iowa Park are also closing in. Rosters that include more than 60 senior area standouts were released Monday.
The baseball all-star teams feature 30 players from 16 different schools with state-ranked Iowa Park having the most representatives with five. In fact, those Hawks will be spread across both rosters as Kase Johnson and Kaden Teafatiller will represent the Red, while Chris Dickens, Braxton Briones and Gairen Johnson will play for the Black.
Holliday, like Iowa Park a district champion this year, also has players on both rosters. Jake Turner and Blake Lindemann will be on the Red, while Chase Borchardt is on the Black.
City all-star baseball representatives are Rider’s Ryan Taylor, Hirschi’s Tucker Shirk and Wichita Falls High School’s Nick Gonzalez, Jerryd Weaver and Jacob Weaver.
The softball all-star teams feature 33 players from 16 different schools. Henrietta has the most softball representatives with four – Kylee Halter and Kylee Erickson on the Red and Kalico Burkes plus Kaci Williams on the Blue.
City all-star softball representatives are Rider’s Brylee Grubb Erwin and Kalee Browning plus Old High’s Kamry Mitchell and Tiffany Tate.
Former Holliday coach Terry Wolf and Rider’s Jeremy Crouch have been chosen as the baseball coaches, while retiring Holliday coach Keith Nichols and Graham’s Adam Arrington are the softball coaches.
The softball game will be played at 6 p.m. on June 13, while the baseball game will begin at 7:30 p.m. This year the games will kick off a weekend’s worth of all-star activities in the area as the Oil Bowl basketball games are scheduled for Friday at Rider High School.
Then the first Oil Bowl volleyball all-star game plus the Oil Bowl football game will finish it off on Saturday, June 15.
