GLENDALE — A 28-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged with second degree reckless homicide after prosecutors said she fatally stabbed a 46-year-old man at a Motel 6 in Glendale last week.

Officers were called to the Motel 6 at around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18th to investigate reports of a stabbing. According to a criminal complaint, the suspect, Shaniqua Alexander, approached officers saying "please help him, he jumped onto my knife."

Court documents say the victim, identified as 46-year-old Jermaine Renix, was found in the shower with the water running — surrounded by blood.

The North Shore Fire Department responded and tried to save his life, but Renix later died from his injuries.

An autopsy performed by The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide.

Alexander told investigators she was currently living at the Motel 6 and previously allowed Renix to stay in her room. The two were not supposed to be having contact, according to the complaint.

Investigators said that Alexander was driving on the evening of Monday, June 17, when she saw Renix with another woman. She allegedly called the victim and said that she didn’t want to see him anymore. She returned to her motel room that evening where she discovered Renix. According to the complaint, the two began to argue. Alexander told police that during the argument she picked up a knife and told Renix to get out.

During the argument, Alexander claims that the two “tussled” and that Renix “bumped” into the knife. The suspect told investigators that Renix began to bleed and got into the shower.

During the 911 call to police, Alexander can be heard yelling, “you're not dying, shut up,” according to the complaint.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Glendale Police Department following the incident.

She made her initial appearance in court on Saturday. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 2. Cash bond was set at $50,000.
