Prince William and Kate Middleton are continuing to carry out their royal duties from their country home in Norfolk amid the pandemic. This week, that meant celebrating Volunteers' Week by video calling with two organizations that rely on volunteers: Conscious Youth in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, and Machynlleth Community Corona Response (MCCR) in Powys, Wales.
Conscious Youth was founded in 2016 with the aim of supporting young people in the area with events and programs planned and lead by those in the same age group. The Duke and Duchess spoke to them about their experience volunteering, and how things have changed due to COVID-19.
Then, the royal couple hopped on a call with MCCR, a group that was recently formed to provide community support during the pandemic. "It’s National Volunteering Week and I want to say a big thank you from both of us," Will said on the call. "Thank you for all the volunteering you’re doing, thank you for all the time and effort you’re putting in. It’s been hugely rewarding and important that you guys are doing that and you have been a lifeline to all the people who you’ve helped in the area.”
The Duchess added, “One of the things that would be amazing is if everyone in their communities was to carry on and still celebrate volunteering in a way that they have been during the pandemic. Everyone’s got something to give back.”
The Cambridges have been doing their part as of late, packing and delivering food to pensioners in their area (an event fans learned about after photos of Princess Charlotte taking part were released to celebrate the young royal's birthday), and more. Will has been helping with Shout85258, a 24/7 crisis text line launched last year after an investment from the Cambridges' Royal Foundation. And for her part, Kate has helped out Royal Voluntary Service’s NHS Volunteer Responders, participating in "check in and chat" calls with the elderly and vulnerable who are self-isolating due to the pandemic.
