TRENTON – Fanny-pack-wearing Thomas Waugh probably isn’t up for any daddy-of-the-year accolades after city street crime detectives busted him this month packing more than just the fanny.

He was packing heat while he was at the Trenton Train Station with his son, who cops also initially believed was armed.

Detectives responded to the train station Nov. 19 after getting a call about an armed man with long hair wearing a yellow jacket. When they got there, they spotted Waugh, 27, of Willingboro, standing next to his son by the light rail.

Cops thought that Waugh’s son was also packing heat like his daddy as they saw him holding a dark rifle that turned out to be a toy gun.

Waugh and his son listened when detectives ordered them to show their hands and drop the rifle, according to the criminal complaint.

Waugh explained to cops that he and his kid had just taken the train to Trenton and he “continually attempted to place the focus of the investigation on his child and the toy gun,” cops wrote in the complaint, which made them more suspicious.

Those suspicions were confirmed when one of the detectives patted Waugh down and felt what seemed like a gun in a fanny pack across he had strapped on across his chest.

It turned out to be a Silver Colt King Cobra .357 loaded with six hollow-point bullets.

Waugh was hit with gun and child endangerment charges, and a judge Thursday ordered him held over until trial.
