TRENTON – A Trenton Water Works employee is out on leave, and city officials aren’t saying why.

But sources told The Trentonian that water treatment repairer Kyle Turner is suspected of pilfering thousands of dollars of materials. Mayor Reed Gusciora referred questions about Turner’s suspension to his spokesman.

City spokesman Connor Ilchert refused to answers questions about whether the city is moving to get rid of Turner. He called it a personnel matter and wouldn’t reveal whether the city referred the matter to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

A MCPO spokeswoman said no charges have been brought against Turner, but she declined to say whether the office was investigating the matter.

Turner called South Ward councilman George Muschal for advice this week after city officials put him on leave. He told the councilman that he was being set up, and had purchased materials for the water department, but that they were placed in an unsecured area and went missing. The items included a kit for a truck, jackets for workers and a microwave, according to Muschal.

Turner has a disciplinary hearing scheduled for this week.
