However, the Manchester Evening News reports United have given "positive feedback" to the Brazilian and feel he needs more time to "properly adapt".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has omitted the 25-year-old from three Premier League matchday squads, and Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay have been preferred as substitutes.

Fred became United's fourth most expensive signing when he arrived in the summer for £52million from Shakhtar Donestk.

He has started only 11 times for United this season.
