Powermen to observe 2-hr strike on October 17

CHANDIGARH: Electricity employees of Chandigarh under the banner of the UT Powermen Union has decided to observe a two-hour pen down strike in all shifts on October 17 and will further observe gazetted holiday on Diwali also.

Electricity employees of Chandigarh under the banner of the UT Powermen Union has decided to observe a two-hour pen down strike in all shifts on October 17 and will further observe gazetted holiday on Diwali also.

The authorities of the Engineering Department will be fully responsible for any inconvenience to the public due to strike and boycott of duties on Diwali. Gopal Dutt Joshi, secretary of the union, said this in the protest rally and demonstration held before the Electricity Office, Sector 17, Chandigarh, today.

The rally was held against the proposal of the Chandigarh Administration to privatise the UT Electricity Department and also against the non-fulfillment of other long-pending demands. Union leaders Dhian Singh, Amrik Singh, Raj Pal, Pan Singh, Daler Singh, Swaran Singh and Paramjit Singh addressed the protest.
