At 84.81%, Chandigarh again hits bottom in P’kula region

Chandigarh: Chandigarh has hit the bottom again with a pass percentage of 84.81 in the Panchkula region whereas Jammu & Kashmir has yet again topped the region with the highest pass percentage of 95.16 in Class XII results released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday.

Chandigarh has hit the bottom again with a pass percentage of 84.81 in the Panchkula region whereas Jammu & Kashmir has yet again topped the region with the highest pass percentage of 95.16 in Class XII results released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday.

The Panchkula region of the CBSE comprises Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh.

Himachal stood second in the region with 89.75 pass percentage, while Haryana stood third at 88.38% of students faring the Class XII examinations.

Even though Chandigarh has shown improvement in pass percentage by 6.91%, it is still the lowest performing state among all states of the Panchkula region. Last year, Chandigarh recorded 79.35 pass percentage.

A total of 20,130 students appeared for the exam from Chandigarh and 17,073 were declared pass this year.

Punjab slipped to the fourth position (86.26%) from third position (86.33%) in 2017. This year, there were also no All-India Rank holders from Punjab, unlike last year.

A total of 925 students appeared from government schools affiliated to the CBSE in Punjab, of which 733 passed the examination recording the pass percentage of 76.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 6,593 students appeared for Class XII examination exams and 6,274 students fared the exam.

In Himachal Pradesh, 9,572 students appeared for the exam and 8,591 were declared pass.

In Punjab, 69,619 students appeared for the exam and 60,054 were declared pass. In Haryana, 94,743 students appeared for the exam and 83,730 cleared it.

In the region, a total of 2,11,871 regular and private students — 1,22,463 boys and 89,408 girls — appeared for the exam and a total of 96,163 boys and 79,559 girls passed the exam. The pass percentage of girls in government schools was 84.84 and that of boys is 78.30.

Girls outshone boys in terms of overall percentage in all states comprising the Panchkula region.

There has been a substantial increase in the pass percentage of the Panchkula region in three years.

This year, the overall percentage of the region stood at 87.57% as compared to last year’s overall pass percentage of 85.66%.

The Panchkula region had three national toppers – Bhavya from Jind (Haryana), Rubani Cheema from Hisar (Haryana) and Dishank Jindal from Chandigarh.
