Chandigarh, June 25 

Chandigarh bowlers fired in unison as the hosts registered an innings and 57-run win over Hoshiarpur on the second and final day of their Punjab Inter-District U-23 Cricket Championship match at the Sector 16 Stadium here on Tuesday.  

Resuming at overnight 89/4, in reply to Chandigarh’s first innings total of 351/3, Hoshiarpur were bowled out for 187 runs in 56.4 overs as Nipun Pandita and Arshdeep Singh rattled the visitors with their speed and accuracy. 

While Pandita returned with figures of 5/56, Arshdeep claimed 3/44 to put the hosts in a position to press for the victory.

Ashish Ghai (46) and Damadeep Singh (35) offered some resistance to the Chandigarh attack but the duo could not help Hoshiarpur from conceding a sizeable lead.

Trailing Chandigarh by 164 runs, Hoshiarpur once again failed to put up a fight and were all out for 105 runs in 35.4 overs. Amit Shukla proved to be their nemesis in the second innings. The spinner ended the day with figures of 4/14. Bhagminder took 2/35. 

Abhishek Bajaj (57) was the top scorer for Hoshiarpur, while Ghai chipped in with 21 runs.

Mohali beat Muktsar

At IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, the hosts beat Muktsar by an innings and 56 runs after Viswanath Partap Singh scored a strokeful century to help the side gain a 178-run first innings lead.   

Chasing Muktsar’s first innings total of 137 runs, Mohali declared their innings closed on 315/4 after resuming the day at 167/2. Viswanath who was batting on 79 yesterday, remained unbeaten on 150, while Anil Yadav contributed a quick-fire 66 to the Mohali total. The duo was also involved in a 136-run fourth-wicket partnership.

Muktsar in their second innings were bowled out for just 122 runs in 51.3 overs. Gurnoor Brar claimed 3/21 for the hosts, while Kunal Vsiwa (2/25) and Jassinder Singh (2/25) took two wickets each.

Patiala tame Mansa 

Patiala, meanwhile, registered an innings and 179-run win over visitors Mansa at Dhruv Pandove Stadium. 

Resuming the day at 314/4, in reply to Mansa’s first innings total of 122 runs, Patiala scored 453/5 in the allotted 95 overs. Prabhsimran Singh added 10 runs to his overnight tally of 60 before being dismissed Sukhveer Singh. Karan Pathak, who was batting on 17 yesterday, made an unbeaten 78, while Prince Balwant Rai remained not out on 67. The two were also raised 128-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Sukhveer Singh was the most effective bowler for Mansa, claiming 3/170, while Shubham Single took 2/121. 

Trailing Patiala by 331 runs, the visitors in their second innings were bowled out for 152 runs in 42.1 overs. Tejpreet Singh took 4/55, while leg-spinner Mayank Markande returned with figures of 3/47. Skipper Akul Pratap Pandove bagged 2/8. 

Prerit shines for Jalandhar 

Prerit Dutta returned with a match-haul of 10/31 as Jalandhar defeated Fatehgarh Sahib by an innings and 277 runs at home on Tuesday. 

Resuming the day on 375/8, in reply to the visitors’ first innings total of 47, Jalandhar closed their innings on 417.   

Left-arm spinner Dutta, who had claimed 4/6 in first innings, then took 6/27 to bundle out Fatehgarh Sahib for 93 runs in their second innings and ensured a massive win for the hosts. 

Ludhiana, Amritsar win

At the GRD Academy grounds in Ludhiana, Gurmehar (5/19) and Deepin Chitkara (4/34) shared nine wickets between them as the hosts bundled out Faridkot for just 71 runs in their second innings to win the match by an innings and 81 runs.   Resuming the day on 28/4, the visitors could only add 43 runs to their overnight tally. 

Ludhiana, in reply to Faridkot’s first innings total of 94, had on Monday declared their innings closed on 246/6.

Abhishek Sharma, meanwhile, hammered a 112-ball 181 to lead Amritsar to an innings and 159-run win against Barnala. 

Chasing Barnala’s first innings total of 115, Amritsar, propelled by Sharma’s knock declared their innings closed on 410/6. 

Trailing Amritsar by 295 runs, Barnala in their second essay were all out for 136 runs. Rohit Gulati was the wrecker-in-chief for Amritsar, claiming 5/37.
