Mono rail for Chandigarh

THERE may be a Metro or monorail for Chandigarh, but the thing that should be kept in mind is that it must be underground. Metro or monorail above the ground should be a big ‘No’ as land space is not available in Chandigarh. Besides, above ground infrastructure will spoil the character and topography of the City Beautiful as envisaged by its architect. Politics apart, please spare Chandigarh from sycophancy.

Travelling on CTU buses a nightmare 

overloaded buses can be seen in Chandigarh too. I had a bad experience while travelling by a CTU buses twice. I boarded a CTU bus from Zirakpur twice on Mondays. Both the time the buses were overloaded. It was really difficult to breathe in these buses. Drivers and conductors should be fined for overloading passengers. Moreover, in CTU buses, there are less number of seats to sit and plenty of space to stand. The passengers pay heavy fare and don’t deserve a scary ride. Every passenger should get a seat. The impediment intensifies as these buses ferry overload of patients to the PGI. As it is seen that Chandigarh is a tourist spot, education hub and healthcare centre, the authorities should start new buses and make overloading a punishable offence as it leads to accidents.

A smart city in the offing

this photograph taken at the Transport Chowk in Chandigarh captures the twin aspects of a would-be Smart City. First, this is a damaged and potholed road, which turns left towards the Tribune Chowk. Secondly, a person at the wheels of this car wrongly yet freely enters Madhya Marg from this prohibited spot. Does all this befit any would-be ‘Smart City’ tag?
