Priyanka, Monika help Chandigarh beat Pondicherry

Priyanka Guleria scored a timely half-century to help Chandigarh beat hosts Pondicherry by four wickets and register their fourth successive win in the Women's Senior One Day Trophy at the CAP Ground today.

Chasing 163 runs for victory, Chandigarh were in a spot of bother at 63/3 in 26 overs. However, Priyanka batted sensibly and stitched a useful 64-run partnership with Ambu to take the visitors close to victory.

Priyanka finally fell to Karuna Jain after scoring run-a-ball 65. Ambu remained not out on 15, while Rajni Devi made an unbeaten 8.

Chandigarh lost opener Manisha Badhan in the second over. She was caught by Divya Shanmugam off BS Tamore on naught.

Monika Pandey was then joined by skipper Amanjot Kaur and together they pushed the total to 50 runs. The two were separated when Amanjot was run out by R Sandhya Mounika on 16.

Parul Saini (6) followed suit five overs later as Chandigarh slumped to 63/3. Monika made 40 runs off 90 balls. She eventually fell to Radhi with Chandigarh on 91. Shivangi (0) also fell in the same over, and it was left to Priyanka to see the side home.

Earlier, put in to bat, the hosts lost their way after a 130-run opening stand between skipper Latika Kumari (57) and BS Tamore (69). Pondicherry could only manage 32 runs in the remaining overs after Kumari Shibi broke through for Chandigarh in the 26th over.
