Chandigarh, May 29

Several important agenda items were approved at a meeting of the MC General House held via video-conferencing here today.

The monthly meetings could not be held in March and April due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav said road recarpeting work in the city would be carried out between September and December.

He said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, contractors could not start work. Last year too, pending recarpeting work could not be done due to shortage of funds.

Other key decisions

  • The MC decided to refund Rs65 lakh booking fee of 498 persons. The bookings were done in advance for April and May for community centres.
  • The MC fixed July 15 as the new deadline for the contractor to complete work of lighting up dark spots.
  • Various civic works, including sewerage upgrade, water supply, storm water, electricity and paver blocks, were approved for 13 UT villages.
  • The House decided to start the first phase of the public bike-sharing system soon from the Industrial Area.
  • Repair work on a biogas plant situated in the Industrial Area, Phase 1, to be carried out at a cost of Rs71 lakh.
  • Reserve price of booths at Food Street, Sector 48, not reduced. The House instead decided to float tenders in August after providing basic amenities such as public toilets there.
  • It was decided to set up the animal carcass incineration plant in Sector 25 in front of Dadu Majra after councillor Shakti Parkash Devshali protested against the move to set up the plant in the Industrial Area.
  • With effect from March 23, fee of vendors in the city as well as paid parking contractors waived.
  • It was decided to spend less than the proposed amount of Rs2.82 cr on buying sanitisers, gloves, masks and PPE kits.
  • An amount of Rs10 crore approved for carrying out paver block and sewerage work in Mani Majra.
