Chandigarh, January 24

School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised the media festival, ‘SOCH-2020,’ kicked off today. The two-day festival includes a variety of events covering different aspects of Journalism and Mass Communication.

All events saw participants from over 15 universities of northern India. The leading institutes that participated were Punjabi University; DAV College, Jalandhar; PCTE, Ludhiana; Kurukshetra University; Shoolini University, Solan; SD College, Chandigarh; GCG-11; Chitkara University and Chandigarh University among others.

The prize distribution ceremony will be held on Saturday along with the School of Communication Studies alumni meet ‘Revivre’.

The first day of the event witnessed events such as poetry slam. RJ Abhinav and Samson Soni were the judges of the event.

An event titled “Extempore” was organised. Wide array of topics were discussed at the event. The jury included Adv Mahima Singh and Kandarp Relhan, a seasoned media professional with an experience of over 11 years. He is a DJ, audio designer, voiceover artist, songwriter, producer and musician at heart. The participants of “Street play” enthusiastically played drums and clapped hands. The jury members included RJ Abhinav, RJ Anmol, and Satish Yadav, an alumnus of the SCS Department, Panjab University.

A poster making competition on the topic ‘Youth and Freedom’ was also organized. It gave an insight into the participants’ take on the current scenario. In the collage-making competition, on the topic “Unity in diversity”, participants used newspapers, CDs, coloured paper, and magazine to create their collage.

A debate on the topic ‘Relevance of mainstream media in a digitally dominating era’ was also organised. A documentary screening was organised wherein the audience watched best documentaries from different institutes.
