Faridabad, November 4

Ahead of Diwali, the air quality of the city improved to “moderate” level from the “severe” category that prevailed for the past one week. The PM 2.5 level was recorded at 191 at 4.10 pm on Sunday against 406 recorded on November 2.

“The improvement in air quality level is a result of breeze that blew away smog,” said Sandeep Singh, Regional Officer, Faridabad zone, Haryana State Pollution Control Board.

The improvement, though temporary, could be a result of increased awareness among people and measures taken by the authorities to check air pollution, he added.

The Municipal Corporation, meanwhile, continued with its drive to check air pollution, including watering plants and trees along main roads, removing earth and waste dumped on roadsides, and keeping a check on construction activities and burning of waste in the open.

“The MC has already issued 174 challans in the past four days to those violating air pollution norms. All hot mix plants and crushers have been closed. The civic body has launched a helpline number – 9599780982 — for submitting photos of burning of waste or any similar activity in the city,” said Mohammed Shayin, MC Commissioner.
