Faridabad, February 9
The Faridabad Municipal Corporation has announced to launch a drive to put a curb on illegal commercial activities going on in residential areas here.
“We will soon take action against all commercial establishments that are operational in residential pockets of the city,” said DR Bhaskar, chief engineer, MC.
Admitting that complaints of illegal commercial activities had gone up sharply over the past few years, he said the MC had served notices on many people involved in illegal commercial activities in the wake of a recent order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court had directed the authorities concerned to take action against such activities in response to a petition filed by Varun Sheokand, a social activist, and the resident welfare association of Sector 10.
They had charged that unauthorised constructions and commercial activities had come up in the residential area.
“The MC will soon seal all shops, showrooms, banquets halls and guesthouses that had illegally come up in residential sectors,” he said.
Meanwhile, Manmohan Garg, deputy mayor of the MC who had raised the issue at a meeting of the civic body recently, has written to the Prime Minister’s Office, seeking suitable action against a private e-commerce company, which he said had opened guest houses in residential areas of the city.
He said the number of such guest houses was around 100.
