Himachal hill stations sizzle; Shimla, Manali unusually hot

SHIMLA: Heat wave conditions continue to prevail in mid and lower hills of the state.

Heat wave conditions continue to prevail in mid and lower hills of the state.

Una in the Shivalik foothills was hotter than most places in the northern states with the maximum temperature touching 44.2°C today.

The mercury stayed two to four degree above normal. Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Sundernagar recorded a high of 42.0°C, 40.4°C and 40.1°C, followed by Mandi 38.0°C, Nahan 37.9°C, Bhuntar 37.4°C, Solan 36.0°C and Palampur 34.4°C.

Shimla was unusually hot with a high of 29.8°C while Manali recorded the maximum temperature at 28.4°C. The mercury soared to 24°C and 22°C at Kalpa and Keylong in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts.

It is likely to maintain rising trend tomorrow. However, the MeT office has predicted relief from heat wave from June 1 and warned of thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds with speed up to 40-50 kmph on June 2 and 3 in mid and lower hills.

The night temperatures also saw a rising trend and Nahan was the hottest with a low of 24.5°C. Shimla was also warm at night with 19°C, followed by Palampur 19.5°C and Una 19.8°C.
