Srinagar, May 12

Amid lockdown, the authorities managed to bring the second flight of 169 J&K students from Bangladesh to Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, 168 students, who had been stuck in Bangladesh amid the coronavirus lockdown, were brought to Kashmir. Another flight, officials said, was scheduled for tomorrow. It would bring the remaining nearly 70 students.

“When the lockdown started, we stayed back thinking it might end soon and travelling would not be safe,” said one of the students.

“But given the situation we were getting very distressed and hopeless that whether we would be able to go back home,” the student said.

After landing in Srinagar, the students were taken to hotels that have been designated as the quarantine centres.

“We are thankful to the administration and the Indian Embassy in Bangladesh that helped us to reach home amid the lockdown,” Insha, another student, said.

The Government of India in its efforts to evacuate stranded persons in different countries due to the Covid-19 pandemic has launched ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ to facilitate the movement of these persons by air and sea.
