14 mobiles found on jail inmates

Ludhiana: During a surprise checking on Friday, 14 mobile phones were recovered from inmates of the Ludhiana Central Jail. A few days ago, the jail staff had recovered 15 mobile phones from the inmates. The inmates from whom the mobiles were recovered have been identified as Ashok Kumar, Ravi Kumar, Harinder Singh, Varinder Singh, Dhiraj Kumar, Happy Vikas and Monu. Assistant Superintendent of Jail Jagpal Singh said acting on a tip-off, a surprise checking was conducted in the barracks and they recovered the mobiles from the belongings of the jail inmates. TNS

8,500 litre of lahan seized

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana police seized 8,500 litre of lahan from Bholewal Jadid village, Ladhowal, during a raid conducted by in charge of anti-smuggling cell Yashpal Sharma on Thursday evening. Yashpal said the raid was conducted along with the Excise officials near the Sutlej which led to the seizure of four drums carrying lahan, one furnace and a huge quantity of jaggery. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against unknown persons who escaped during the raid. The lahan was later destroyed by throwing it in the river. TNS
